About ArchaeoMap

ArchaeoMap is an interactive web-based tool designed to let users explore the evolution of human settlements and ancient cities across time. With a dynamic map interface, a timeline slider, and detailed metadata, ArchaeoMap brings historical geography to life.

Why ArchaeoMap?

Cities don’t just appear — they evolve, transform, and sometimes disappear. ArchaeoMap was created to visualize this change, to show the rise and fall of cities across thousands of years, from prehistoric settlements to classical civilizations and modern metropolises.

Data Sources

The platform aggregates curated historical city datasets, combining archaeological findings, historical records, and open-source mapping data. Each city’s entry includes its founding date, possible ending date (if applicable), rulers over time, and notable landmarks.
